Torre Macauda Resort Masterplan

Towards a Contemporary, Landscape-Led Mediterranean Resort

An existing coastal resort in southern Sicily is reimagined as a contemporary Mediterranean destination that merges refined hospitality with landscape-driven leisure, wellness, and cultural experiences. The project is conceived as a refurbishment-led transformation, guided by a clear spatial framework that responds to climate, topography, and the rhythms of Mediterranean life. Set between land and sea, and shaped by light, water, and vegetation, the design is rooted in place rather than spectacle, allowing architecture and landscape to operate as a unified experience.

The masterplan is structured as a continuous sequence of spaces unfolding through the site, from arrival to retreat, from social gathering to moments of quiet contemplation. New interventions are carefully integrated into the existing fabric and terrain, preserving openness and long-distance views while enhancing connectivity and spatial clarity. Architecture remains deliberately restrained, working with the contours of the landscape to create a calm, timeless resort environment where movement, nature, and hospitality are seamlessly intertwined.

Design Approach

The design approach adopts a refurbishment-first strategy, optimizing existing structures before introducing precise new interventions. Design decisions are driven by analysis of circulation, orientation, and performance, ensuring long-term efficiency, adaptability, and economic viability.

Private Retreat within the Landscape

The landscape rooms reinterpret the hotel room at a domestic scale, offering privacy and intimacy while remaining fully integrated into the resort. Through careful refurbishment, a Mediterranean architectural language of stucco, shaded terraces, water, and gardens allows the rooms to sit naturally within the landscape, expressing a calm and timeless hospitality experience.

Pool & Spa Experience

The hotel pool extends the lobby into a calm, guest-only leisure space framed by landscape and open views to the horizon. Connected to a discreet spa pavilion, it forms a refined wellness sequence where hospitality, leisure, and relaxation are seamlessly integrated.

Playable Landscape

The golf landscape is reimagined as an open and integrated part of the resort, unfolding as a continuous terrain shaped by topography, planting, and views. Walking paths and gentle transitions create an accessible environment where golf becomes part of a broader Mediterranean landscape, seamlessly woven into daily resort life.

Evening Social Ritual

The outdoor cinema is conceived as an intimate evening gathering set within the landscape, framed by stone walls, planting, and soft lighting. More than an event space, it becomes a calm and social ritual that extends the resort experience into the night, deeply connected to its Mediterranean setting.
